We're Back!
Nov. 3rd, 2025 09:18 amLong time no see! We're finally able to catch our breath from HowlCon, so we're checking in here!
HowlCon
HowlCon was awesome and went better than we ever hoped it could. Honestly, we're still kind of reeling from the fact that people showed up and it was a real convention, if that makes sense? Like, for a long time it was a silly idea in our head, then it became real. Running a convention was a lot though. However, now that we have our feet under us, we're feeling 10x more confident about next year - which we're planning to host October 24-26, 2026.
This will give our staff more breathing room between OC and HowlCon and line up with the October full moon.
Alterhuman Zines
Another thing we've been working our tails off on is our zine archive! Remember the site we linked a few months ago? Pretend that version doesn't exist because we ended up deciding to remake the whole thing in nekowebs. Weebly is being sunsetted last we heard and nekowebs seems cool. We lost some convenience, but gained a lot more control.
It's live now, check it out! And feel free to share it and download pdf copies of the zines for your own collections! https://alterhuman-zines.nekoweb.org/
Normally we'd plaster our hydra systemsona over it, but Isabell wanted a site with her likeness on it, so we themed it after her. We usually keep our look consistent across socials - since we're worried ppl won't recognize us otherwise, but she's right and not everything needs to be hydra lol.
No, she's not the one working on the archive.
We were about to type that she doesn't help with it, but she says she does so in spirit. Isabell has her own library in our headspace that she tends to and spends most of her time researching or reading within. So the vibes for her match an archive.
At the time of writing this, we currently have 92 zines in the archive with roughly 30 or so on our list of what needs to be added yet.
Draconity Zine
Speaking of zines, our Draconity 2025 zine just officially closed for submissions the other day! We have compiled all but one of the entries at this point and it's already surpassed all our other community zines in length! We estimate it'll end up being just under 70 pages.
Once all the entries are in the pdf, we'll spend about a week writing alt text and double checking reading order in acrobat. We're using InDesign to create the pdf because we bought a copy of CS6 a million years ago on a student discount during college and the program still work just fine. We do also have access to the CC from our job, but we're used to CS6 and it does what we want.
Oh and probably some time during all this we should write the letter from the editor we left two pages blank for;;
We're so excited to be able to share this zine!! We expect it to be available for download before the end of the month.
Until next time! :awoo:
